Trickster arrested for duping a jobseeker Mk600,000

Police in Zomba on July 05, 2023, arrested a 25 year-old-man identified as Alex Chikomesa for duping a job seeker money and other items amounting to MK600, 000.00.

According to the victim Yorum Mvula, the suspect Alex Chikomesa between the month of September, 2021 and August, 2022 duped him MK 547,000.00 cash, a blanket and a cellphone all amounting to MK600,000.00 on pretext that he will get him employed at World Food Program (WFP) where he alleged to have been working.

Yolam said he met the suspect in September 2021 and they became friends. In the course of their friendship, Chikomesa told him that he works with the World Food Program (WFP) and promised to get him employed and demanded cash. He said, since then, he has been sending the culprit money through Airtel money, and at times, he could give him by hand.
Yolam said he also gave the suspect a blanket and a cellphone.

After seeing that the deal is not materializing, he reported the case to Police who upon investigations, they discovered that the suspect is not an employee of the World Food Program but a mare fraudster.

Chikomesa who is also answering similar charges in court and was on bail, is currently in Police custody awaiting to answer charges of cheating contrary to section 321 of the Penal Code.

Chikomesa hails from Njenjema village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba district.

Meanwhile, Police in the district is appealing to the public not to indulge in shabby dealings to avoid being duped by fraudsters.
