Senior Chief Kapichi laid to rest

Senior Chief Kapichi of Thyolo has been laid to rest at Khonjeni Headquarters following his demise on Friday.

In his eulogy during the burial ceremony on Monday, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Owen Chomanika said just as the family and everybody else, government was also saddened by his demise.

“We have lost a great person who has served the country and his area all his life.

“After retiring as a senior person in the Malawi Police Service, he would have chosen to stay in the city. However, our chief came to his village and took up chieftaincy,” he said.

Deputy Minister said the life of late Kapichi was a great lesson to everyone to be humble and a servant of people.

Senior Chief Chimaliro said the whole family of chiefs in Thyolo has lost a great leader whom they were relying for wisdom.

“We are great chiefs in our different areas because we used to consult him for guidance and wisdom. We have lost a pillar,” he said.

The late Senior Chief, real name Fyson Mpina succumbed to high blood pressure and diabetes at Malamulo Hospital in the district.

The chief who died at the age of 79 is survived by a wife, four children and four grandchildren.
