Mzuzu City Mayor Gift Desire Nyirenda’s defilement case adjourned to August 20, wife testifies

The seventh witness in the defilement case involving Mzuzu City Mayor Gift Desire Nyirenda has told the court in Mzuzu on Thursday that on the day of the alleged offence, she did not hear any noise from the room the victim was sleeping.

The witness, Esnat Nyirenda is the wife of the accused.

She told the court that their house has rooms that are close to each other to the effect that any noise from each room could be heard in the others.

“I did not hear any noise on that day and for the record, my husband does not usually go out of our room when he has started sleeping,” she told the court, responding to a question from the defence lawyer Davie Lameck.

State prosecutor Moja Phiri asked for adjournment to parade the final witness.

Meanwhile, Principal Magistrate Clemence Chamwenda has adjourned the case to August 16, 2023, where the state is expected to parade one last witness.

Nyirenda was granted bail on August 20 last year.
