Chakwera in Tanzania for Africa Heads of State Human Capital Summit

President Lazarus Chakwera who is today in Tanzania, will today be at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam for Africa Heads of State Human Capital Summit.

In a statement, Presidential press secretary Anthony Kasunda said Chakwera, in the company of his African counterparts, global dignitaries, and representatives from civil society, is poised to leverage this platform to engage in deliberations and exchange best practices concerning the pivotal role of human capital in driving robust economic growth and holistic development.

He said: “The President is today set to participate actively in several high-level panel discussions alongside other Heads of State and Government.

“In one such discourse, Chakwera will assume the role of panelist alongside leaders from Cameroun, Sao Tome and Principe, Mozambique, Cape Verde, and Libya.”

Kasunda said the discussion will revolve around the theme, “Africa’s prosperity hinges upon its youthful demographics: Strategies to harness the full potential of the continent’s burgeoning young population towards achieving Agenda 2063”.

“Another crucial panel discussion will take center stage, exploring the theme “Are we prepared to invest in the education and productivity of young Africans?”

“While a third discussion will delve into the theme “Equipping youth with essential skills and ensuring gainful employment: Paving the way to sustainable development,” he said.

Additionally, Kasunda said Chakwera will later today attend a presentation where a select group of beneficiaries will showcase the Intergenerational Returns on Investments in People. This segment will highlight inspiring cases where timely investments in one generation have profoundly altered the economic and life trajectories of the succeeding generations.

Chakwera will also join fellow African leaders in endorsing the Dar es Salaam Human Capital Declaration 2023, and grace a session on Accelerating Investment in Human Capital under the theme, “Let us accelerate Investment in Africa’s Human Capital, our future depends on it.”

The summit is also slated to provide a comprehensive overview of emerging priorities in human capital accumulation, galvanising participants towards policy reforms and augmented funding to attain meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

Beyond the summit’s main events, President Chakwera is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with Dr. Victoria Akwakwa, the esteemed World Bank Vice President for East and Southern Africa, and further, meeting with Hon. Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia.
