Four MDF soldiers fired over corruption

Four Malawi Defense Force (MDF) soldiers have been dismissed after a court martial found them guilty of taking bribes at a security check-point near Chirumba Barracks in Karonga.

The four were accused of receiving the bribes from a truck driver driving from Mzuzu towards Karonga early morning yesterday.

Two of the four soldiers will do time in civilian prisons; one for 10 days and the other 14 days before going back home.

The four victims are; No 13461 Cpl Mirriam Thole, No 21727 Pte Mackson Phiri, No 23737 Pte Isiah Simwanza, No 20671 Pte Brian Mbeta.

Effort to talk MDF spokesperson Major Emmanuel Mlelemba proved futile.

More details to follow..
