Mike Kafalachi has been elected chairperson for Nsanje District Council.
The Chekerere Ward Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councilor emerged winner after defeating his counterpart from Matundu Ward, Robert Chavi, of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) with 10 votes against 5.
He replaces Kalulu Ward councillor Rose Makiyi who has been on the helm for two consecutive terms.
On the other hand, Independent councilor from Nyachilenda Ward, Felix Round, has been voted deputy chairperson after defeating MCP’s Chigumukire Ward councillor, Honest Sande.
