Police in Mponela, Dowa, are keeping in custody a 36-year-old man identified as Amosi Mtonga, for being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa (Chamba) without license.
The suspect was arrested on August 24, 2023 at around 15:30 hours at Kawamba village along the Lilongwe – Kasungu M1 road.
Officers from Mponela Police Station, who were on operation, mounted road block at the said place and they stopped a motor vehicle, that was driving from the direction of Lilongwe heading to Mzuzu, with passengers on board.
Upon searching the motor vehicle, officers found eight bricks of loose Cannabis, sealed in black plastic wrappers.
Mponela Police Public Relations Officer said the suspect, who hails from Chiuza village in the area of Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa, will appear before court soon to answer applicable charges.
