In Mchinji a Court has sentenced 28-year-old Ishmael Phiri to 12 months in jail and fined him K80 000 for wounding a sex worker following a disagreement in their business deal.

Third Grade Magistrate Samuel Chakudza slapped Phiri presided over the case.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Gladys Mzama told the court that Phiri approached the sex worker at a pub where they agreed to have sex at a bargained charge of K1 000.

While in the service room, the convict demanded for unprotected but the woman disagreed.

This prompted him to snatch the K1000 from her along with her other money she earned in her business that day.

A quarrel erupted where the two exchanged words and fought.

Consequently, the convict stabbed the sex worker on her underbelly with a knife.

Phiri pleaded not guilty but later convicted upon full trial.

He prayed for mercy sating that he is the breadwinner of his family.

Chakudza said the K80 000 was compensation to the sex worker for the injury suffered.

The convict hails from Chidzanja Village Traditional Authority Simphasi in Mchinji.
