MANEPO Condemns Attempted Mob Justice on Elderly Man Accused of Witchcraft in Neno

Date:

The Malawi Network of Older Persons Organization (MANEPO) has condemned the conduct of some villagers at Kasamba in Neno for attempting mob justice on an elderly person accused of witchcraft.

In a statement today signed by the organization’s country director, Andrew Kavala, MANEPO says it has sent a team to Zalewa roadblock to assess the situation and the needs of the 89-year-old man, Binwell Chabwera.

Chabwera is being accused of having a hand in the death of his grandson, who he had been staying with since childhood and died after a short illness.

The older person’s body has also provided food and non-food items to the granny, who is being housed at the Zalewa roadblock police unit.
