Police Quest For Improved Welfare

Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service Mrs. Merlyne Nachulu Yolamu, has assured her subordinates that government is working in improving their living conditions by reintroducing food rations, house, risk allowances and adequate uniform provision in the service.
She made the assurance yesterday at the Town Multipurpose Hall in Mangochi during her familiarization tour in the Eastern Region.
Yolamu assured 197 police officers from various formations within the district that the MPS will reward those officers who exhibit good conduct, work diligently, and promote disciplined and experienced ones, regardless of where they are posted.
The IG, strongly cautioned her subordinates to refrain from taking part in political activities while emphasizing that police discipline only allows them to abide by and serve the government of the day.
“I urge you to maintain professionalism at all times, avoid harboring criminals, refrain from disclosing information through social media, and resist engaging in corruption” Yolamu added.
However, she emphasized that she will not shield any police officer involved in criminal activities.
On her part, Commissioner for the Eastern Region, Miss Violet Magwaya, commended the station and Station Executive Committee(SEC) for reducing crime and maintaining a cordial relationship with members of the community, who also play a significant role in lowering crime.
Meanwhile, Officer in-charge for Mangochi Police Station, Senior Assistant Commissioner Timothy Phiri, thanked the IG for sparing her time despite her busy schedule.
Phiri assured her that the station will continue working tirelessly to protect the lives and property of its citizenry.
During the event, donated a brand new desktop computer for the Malamia Police Mobile Camp, fulfilling the promise she made when she visited last December after the in-charge of the camp requested the same.
