Dedza Police arrest four suspected murderers

Police in Dedza have arrested four men in connection with the murder of 47-year-old John Dimba who died on October 16, 2023 at Njolo Village in the district.

The district’s police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Beatrice Jefita, has since identified the four as 55-year old Richard Matias, Mabvuto Matias aged 19, Gift Matias 26 and Imedi Henry aged 18.

Jefita told Malawi News Agency (Mana) in an interview on Monday that there was a land wrangle between Dimba and one Chikaiko Jovelo aged 55.

On the material day when they met while Dimba was in company of another person, Happy Josephy, a physical feud ensued which left Jovelo unconscious.

“The following morning, Chikaiko Jovelo’s body was found lifeless along the road, a development which prompted relations to the deceased to summon Dimba and Josephy but an angry mob brutally assaulted them before taking the issue to police,” said Jefita.

“The matter was later reported to Linthipe Police Post which referred the two to Diamphwe Health Centre where Dimba succumbed to death upon arrival at the Hospital due to head injuries while Josephy remains unconscious”, Jefita added.

Following the incident, Linthipe Police arrested the four men who are seen brutally assaulting John Dimba in a circulating video clip on social media.

The four suspects will face murder charges in court.
