Three Women to Face Charges for Audio Clips on Murder Investigations Including Of Allan Witika

The Malawi Police Service has arrested three women, including a police officer named Inspector Susan Kachinga, in connection with a viral audio clip detailing issues related to murder case investigations.

One of the murder investigations discussed in the audio clip pertains to the death of Allan Witika, an employee of Coca-Cola Beverages Company, who was found dead in the back seat of his car in Area 15 in Lilongwe.

This audio clip also made claims involving Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu, which the police previously denied.

The women, Mercy Chiligo, Susan Kachinga and Chipiliro Kalima have been charged with Cyber Bullying and Defamation of Character, offenses under the Electronic Transaction and Cyber Security Act and the Penal Code.

They are set to appear in court in Blantyre.

Reads the statement in part: “MPS has charged the three with cyber bullying and defamation of character which are crimes under the Electronic Transactions and Cyber-Security Act and Penal Code, respectively. They will be taken to court in Blantyre soon after their statements are taken.”

  1. The arrest of three women, including Inspector Susan Kachinga, in connection with a viral audio clip discussing murder investigations, adds a layer of complexity to the already sensitive case of Allan Witika’s death. While preparing college paper, I read here https://edubirdie.com/examples/bullying/ that the charges of Cyber Bullying and Defamation of Character, based on the Electronic Transaction and Cyber Security Act and the Penal Code, highlight the legal consequences of disseminating information related to criminal investigations. The inclusion of a police officer among the accused underscores the significance of maintaining integrity in law enforcement. As this unfolds, it raises questions about the role of social media in legal matters and the responsibility associated with sharing information that can impact ongoing investigations.
