Senior Chief Malili laid to rest

Thousands of people gathered at Chiwenga headquarters in Lilongwe to bid farewell to Senior Chief Malili who died on Friday in a road accident at Kambanizithe in Mitundu, Lilongwe.

In his eulogy, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Owen Chomanika who represented President Lazarus Chakwera said the country has lost a leader who was instrumental in spearheading development in the district.

“This is a great loss to the country. Malili was a custodian of the Chewa culture in this area and was influential in promoting peaceful coexistence among people in the community,’’ he said.

Chomanika then advised the royal family to choose the rightful heir according to Chewa tradition to avoid chieftaincy wrangles.

Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South West who is also Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza advised family members to support the children of late Senior Chief to further their education.

Notable figures at the burial ceremony were the Deputy Speaker Madalitso Kazombo, Lilongwe District Commissioner Dr. Lawford Palani, Members of Parliament and MCP Chairperson for the Centre Patrick Zebron Chilondola and other Traditional Authorities.

Born in 1964, late Senior Chief Malili is survived by 3 wives and 6 children.
