Police in Rumphi arrested four Malawians for aiding the illegal entry of 26 Ethiopians into Malawi at the Hewe area on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Rumphi Police Publicist Noel Kamchenga, they received information about vehicles carrying illegal immigrants from the Kanyenjere border heading towards Hewe trading centre.

When the suspected vehicles reached a police roadblock, they disobeyed orders to stop and sped off.

In response, the police shot at the vehicle tires, causing them to come to a halt.

Three vehicles—a Toyota Fortuner, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, an Isuzu KB—and two motorcycles used in the trafficking mission were impounded.
