“We need a transformer,” people who leave in Yonamu village in Salima

People who leave in Yonamu in the area of senior chief Kalonga in Salima district have complained about Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in failing to repair transformer that was caught fire in their area in November last year.

Senior Chief Yonamu has said that people in the area are suffering because of lack of electricity, which has disrupted various activities in the village.

“We have been without electricity for a long time now, which is making it difficult for people to get access to maize mills because places where there are maize mills that run on electricity are far away from here, to charge phones is a big problem here and even education has been disrupted because when students want to study at night they suffer,” Said Senior Chief Yonamu.

ESCOM spokesperson Kitty Chingota said that at the moment, the company does not have a transformer.

“We are aware of the problem but at this moment we are in the process to find a transformer for the level of the area and when everything is possible we will install it,” said Chingota.
