“Fighting against Corruption is Very Expensive”- Martha Chizuma

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, Martha Chizuma says the fight against corruption is very expensive since there has been demonstrable political will from the high office.

Chizuma made the remarks at the Anti-Corruption Symposium which was held at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.

According to Chizuma, for the past 25 years that the bureau has been in existence, there has been mafias who are continuously working to frustrate the work of the ACB to protect their interests.

“The past 25 years have clearly shown that fighting corruption can be very expensive, more over we know that those who are corrupt are clearly well resourced from the very same spoils of their corrupt acts and use the same stolen spoils to defend themselves,” said Chizuma

Chizuma also thanked the Malawi government for increasing the funding of the bureau but call upon stakeholders that there is more to be done in order to fight against corruption.

“The government has significantly increased the bureaus funding, but we also know that on its on this can not much the deep pockets of corrupt cartels dirty money,” Chizuma said.

The symposium was held under the theme:  Rethinking Anti-corruption Approaches for Malawi 2063 and President Dr Lazarus Chakwera was the guest of honor.
