Woman beaten mercilessly after being caught red-handed stealing Chitenje (watch video)

A business lady from Dedza District only identified as ‘Mayi a Prisca’ has been beaten mercilessly after being caught red-handed stealing a Chitenje in a shop in the capital Lilongwe.

It is said that the woman went into a shop with a Burundian national to check for the prices of rappers (Zitenje) and they left claiming that the prices were too exorbitant.

Few minutes later the suspect came back and took a Chitenje and attempted to sneak out of the shop without paying.

The suspect was seen by one of the shop attendant who managed to apprehend her with the help of others. Instead ot taking her to police, the shop attendant and others started beating the woman mercilessly.

The video of the suspect being assaulted in the shop has since gone viral on social media attracting mixed reactions from the general public.

Former Old Mutual Malawi employee Gift Henry Nkhoma wrote: “These men have to be arrested. Tonse tabeledwapo ndipo zimawawa koma she does not deserve to be beaten like that. Sanatchole nyumba ya munthu, it’s probably something she didn’t plan on doing.”
