A Magistrate court in Nkhotakota has sentenced a 33- year- old man, Francis Kamanga to 14 years in prison for defiling and impregnating a 16- year- old girl.
According to spokesperson of Nkhunga police, the convict committed the crime in August this year.
The public prosecutor in the case, Mickeas Chatsira told Nkhunga Magistrate’s Court that Kamanga persuaded the girl to help him sweep and mop in his house while doing the work Kamanga hugged the girl and defiled her.
The matter came to light later, when the girl’s mother realized that her child was pregnant.
Kamanga pleaded with the court to be given a soft punishment because his wife has a baby, but Magistrate Kingsley Buleya rejected his request.
Kamanga hails from Kamoza village Traditional Authority Nkumbira in Nkhata Bay district.
