President Lazarus Chakwera has said that they key to improving the welfare of Malawians is the reconstruction of the civil service.

Chakwera made the call during the presiding over the launch of the Civil Servants Medical Scheme at Capital Hill in Lilongwe.

According to the Malawi leader, Civil Servants are drivers of change and development in Malawi and there’s a need to improve medical service for Civil servants.

“The key to improve in public service delivery to Malawian people is the reconstruction of the civil service. We need to reconstruct the structural of civil service itself, recruit top notch technocrats to strategic positions within it, revamp its operations by having a truly mediatorial system,” said Chakwera.

Chakwera added that medical scheme cover is part of the reconstruction process, saying the scheme signifies that the health of the civil servants matters.

The government introduced the medical scheme through MASM in 2021 and the scheme allows the civil servants to pay only 10 percent, with the government covering 90 percent of the premium.
