A 28-year-old Dyton Longwe and Walter Banda (age not advised) were rushed to Nkhata Bay District Hospital by police after angry people at Mpamba in the area of Senior Chief Timbiri in the district brutally manhandled them in the wee hours of December 11.
It is alleged that the two men, who both come from the area, on the material night, broke into the house belonging to Pastor Alex Zamandere of Kingdom Gospel Church at Mpamba where they attacked the wife and went away with K150,000.00.
Nkhata Bay Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Kondwani James, confirmed the development in an interview on Monday, saying reports indicate that the suspects, who assaulted the pastor and his wife before stealing the money, were more than four.
However, as the pastor shouted for help, other villagers came and managed to catch two of the suspects and assaulted them severely before reporting the matter to Nkhata Bay Police Station.
“Immediately after the report was conveyed to police, officers who were on duty rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the two suspects,” he added.
According to James, the two are currently in police custody while receiving treatment at Nkhata Bay District Hospital.
Meanwhile, police in the district have intensified investigations to arrest the remaining suspects connected to the matter.
Police have further advised people in the district to avoid taking the law into their own hands by punishing those suspected to have committed offences as the act infringes justice.
