Man Arrested For Impregnating 16-Year-Old Niece In Kasungu

Police in Kasungu on December 25, 2023, arrested Henderson Mwale, aged 52, on allegations that he engaged in sexual relations with and impregnated his 16-year-old niece.

Kasungu Police Spokesperson Joseph Kachikho said the mother of the victim told the police that the suspect, an uncle of the victim’s, invited the girl to spend the night with his own children after her mother had travelled with a church choir.

It is alleged that in the middle of the same night, Mwale called the victim to his bedroom where he defiled her and this became a habit.

In the month of April 2023, the victim became pregnant but never revealed it to anyone until December when her mother noticed some changes in her daughter’s appearance.

Upon being quizzed she narrated the ordeal and stated that the suspect was responsible for her pregnancy.

The matter was reported to Kasungu Police Station and the victim was referred to Kasungu District Hospital for examination where it was confirmed that she is pregnant, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect is expected to appear before court soon to answer the charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor, contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
