MUB Commemorates world braille day by advocating for inclusion and diversity

Malawi Union for the Blind has called upon all Malawians to be inclusive and diversity to enable individuals with disability to thrive and contribute to the growth of the economy in the country.

The call has come as MUB is commemorating word braille day which is designed to appreciate the brilliance of Louis Braille’s innovation and reaffirms of commitment to creating an inclusive world.

According to the press statement signed by MUB Executive Director Ezekiel Kumwenda, this year’s celebration is observed under the theme “Empowering Through Inclusion and Diversity”.

“The theme ‘Empowering Though Inclusion and Diversity resonates deeply with MUB’s core values which aims at emphasizing the transformative power of diversity within the visually impaired community”, reads part of the statement.

Meanwhile, MUB Executive Director Ezekiel Kumwenda said while commending government on its commitment in ratifying the Africa Disability Protocol which is a significant step towards ensuring the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities, they still want other crucial documents like the constitution, disability bill and land reforms bill to be made accessible to people with diverse reading needs.

World Braille Day is an international day on 4 January and celebrates awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people.
