Police at Dwangwa in Nkhotakota district have arrested Elard Fredson aged 40 in connection with the brutal murder of a 25-year-old motorcycle taxi operator, Kondwani Kaunda.
Spokesperson for Nkhunga Police Station, Andrew Kamanga, says on Saturday at around 2300 hrs, Kaunda was hired to take some passengers to an area called Chasato and opted to be escorted by a friend, Patrick Banda.
“Upon arrival at Chasato area near Chasato river, the two passengers ordered Kondwani to stop. Immediately, some other criminals appeared from the bush. Patrick Banda, allegedly managed to escape with the King lion motorcycle which was the targeted”, says Kamanga.
He further said that the criminals allegedly killed Kondwani Kaunda and dumped his body in the Chasato river where it was found floating on Sunday.
Police say they were supported by Chasato community policing forum members to arrest Elard Fredson in connection to the murder while two more suspects are at large.
