Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) has distributed K279 million and certificate of recognition to 54 artist whose works earned royalties in excess of K1 million from April 2023 to September 2023.
The ceremony which was held at Crossroads hotel in Lilongwe, 54 artist received money and certificate of recognition.
Some artist that has received the money are Zeze Kingstone, Namadingo, Janta, Wikise, Lucius Banda, Kell Kay, Temwa, Rashley and Joseph Nkasa.
Eli Njuchi and Driemo are the artist that have received the highest amount of money as they pocketed K5 million each.
Cosoma also awarded certificates of recognition to late musicians, Tremour, Waly Cris, Atoht Manje and Martse.
The blank media levy is collected to support artists in the production and reproduction of their works ensuring that creatives receive fair compensation for their artistic properties.
