Frustrated former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) councillor in Karonga, Steve Simsokwe is alleged to have turned into a political scammer, this publication has established.
A self-claimed youth activist, Simsokwe is always on forefront attacking President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s administration on his Facebook page as well as in burial ceremonies in the district.
It is alleged that he is doing that in order to get MCP’s attention so that he get a “muted” token.
Simsokwe has also been on forefront organizing “political” anti-government protest in the district.
Such protests are allegedly to be a political tool of dealing with MCP government as well as source of income.
While he is part of demon’s organizers, it is alleged that Simsokwe is fond of persuading some MCP senior members to give him a token of silencing the protesters.
Simsokwe was booted out from his councillor position after the court found him guilty of misusing the Karonga council fund.
Together with his two colleagues who were also councillors, Simsokwe illegally sold council land to vendors and Anti-Corruption Bureau took the matter to court.
Simsokwe believe that some MCP senior members were behind his case and he is doing everything against the ruling party.
Some senior chiefs including Paramount Chief Kyungu said the decision of holding protests in the district affect development projects and create bad environment.
In the social media, number of Malawians from the north are accusing him of being tribalistic.
Effort to talk with Simsokwe proved futile as his mobile phone was out of reach.
