Mangochi Police Nab Duo for Breaking into School, Stealing iPads and Headsets

Two men identified as Nuru Mustafa, 25, and Noel Maonga, 25, have been arrested by Police in Mangochi for allegedly breaking into St. Augustine 3 Primary School’s block and making away with assorted items worth K66.5 million.

According to Mangochi Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, Mustafa hails from Mtalimanja village, while Maonga comes from Samama, both in Traditional Authority Mponda in the same district and they committed the offence in the wee hours of February 5, 2024 within the township.

“According to the school’s Headteacher, Mr. Cosmas Chimwaza, during the end of last year, the school recieved a donation of learning materials, including iPads, headsets, cords, and charger savers from Voluntary Service Overseas meant for learners’ use,” Daudi said.

She indicated that all along, the items were being kept securely in one of the rooms. “On the morning of the said date, after reporting for duties, the reporter discovered that the room had been broken into by unknown criminals who took away 43 iPads, 43 headsets, and charger savers.”

The matter was reported at Mangochi Police Station and a team of detectives swiftly responded leading to the arrest of the duo who were released from prison in the middle of last year for similar offenses.

“41 iPads have been recovered out of the stolen items, which have already been identified by the reporter,” Daudi revealed.

The suspects will appear before court soon.
