LILONGWE – The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe is this week continuing to hear a case involving Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Central Region Vice President Alfred Gangata, who is accused of possessing a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) obtained through irregular means.

Gangata was arrested in March this year after police investigations revealed that he is allegedly using a 2018 MSCE certificate from Chitowo Day Secondary School, suspected to have been forged or acquired illegally.

Following his arrest, the DPP official was granted bail, and court proceedings have since been ongoing.

According to the prosecution, Gangata did not follow proper procedures to attain the certificate, raising concerns over document authenticity and academic fraud.

The case continues in the Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court as both sides present their arguments.
