Epileptic man drowns in well in Lilongwe

A 50 year old epileptic patient has died in Lilongwe after drowning in a well at Mtande Village, Traditional Authority Chiseka.

Lilongwe Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Khumbo Sanyiwa has confirmed of the development and identified the deceased as Lapani Maluwa.

Sanyiwa said the incident happened yesterday evening.

“On the fateful day, Maluwa (deceased) left home in the afternoon for a certain water body near a well, looking to fetch reeds for mats making.Unfortunately, he did not report back home.

“After noticing that the husband was not coming back home, the wife started looking for him,” said Sanyiwa.

He added: “This is when Maluwa was discovered drowned in a well.

“Police officers from Mitundu accompanied by medical personnel from Mitundu Community Rural Hospital, visited the scene of the incident.”

Postmortem by the said hospital revealed that death was due to suffocation.

Lapani Maluwa (deceased), hailed from Mtande Village, Traditional Authority Chiseka in Lilongwe District.
