President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on Friday failed to recognize the presence of leader of opposition in Parliament following the ongoing infighting in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
This is despite Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani announcing that Kondwani Nankhumwa remains the Leader of Opposition in Parliament following the current court injunction which stops the DPP from firing him from the position.
As per tradition, President Chakwera started by recognizing various dignitaries present in the August House but he failed to mention the name of the Leader of the Opposition.
He just said: “Leader of the Opposition….” and then remained quiet and continued without mentioning the name of Kondwani Nankhumwa.
The opposition DPP earlier proposed Dr. George Chaponda to replace Nankhumwa following his firing from the Party and yesterday the party also proposed Mary Navicha as another replacement.
