Mine Collapse Claims Three Lives in Machinga

Machinga police publicist Western Kansire confirmed the tragic incident, stating that three individuals lost their lives in the collapse.

The incident occurred yesterday morning when a gold mine along the Sangwi River collapsed on the miners.

The deceased, identified as Abdul Limbalire, Kiyati Makwinja, and Georgina Jokosi, were attempting to extract gold from the mine.

The wet condition of the mine is believed to have contributed to its collapse, trapping the miners inside.

Ajilu Kalitendere, the Member of Parliament for the area, emphasized the urgent need for regulations in the mining sector to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The deceased will laid to rest soon.
