Malawi Police Condemns DPP Fracas In Lilongwe

Malawi Police Services (MPS) has strongly condemned the political motivated violence that took place in Lilongwe near at Mbowe on 24 February 2024.

There were fracas in the city when Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members gathered for a blue parade, unknown group of young people in DPP attire came and invade the parade using dangerous objects.

In a press statement by MPS dated 24 February, that Face Of Malawi has seen, the fracas has caused some people having serious injuries and others are still receiving treatment at the hospital while seven motor vehicles have been damaged.

However, DPP Mulanje Bale Constituency MP Victor Musowa   has said that fracas was sparked after alleged Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters wanted to block their Blue Parade.

Commenting on the matter MCP has distanced the party from fracas, saying MCP is a party of peace.

According to MCP’s spokesperson Ezekiel Ching’oma, the fracas has been sparked within DPP as the party is having some divisions

Meanwhile, Malawi police services has launched an investigation to catch the culprits.
