Police in Chitipa have arrested a 23-year old man for suspecting him that he allegedly defiled a 13 year-old girl.
Deputy spokesperson for Chitipa Police Officer Mathews Mfune has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Lyson Mwiwanga,
According to Mfune, the suspect committed the crime on 29 March 2024 when victim was going for Easter night prayers.
Mfune said Mwiwanga is suspected to have taken hostage of the girl, forcing himself on her for two nights before letting her go.
Medical examination conducted at Chitipa District Hospital showed that the girl was defiled.
The suspect will soon appear before court to answer charges leveled against him.
Lyson Mwiwanga, hails from Namuyemba village in T/A Mwaulambya’s area, in the District.
