GOVERNMENT RECRUITS NEW HEALTH CARE WORKERS

The Ministry of Health has recruited at least 150 new health care workers to be stationed in health facilities across the country after removing those who did not meet criteria during a recent recruitment exercise.

The principal secretary for Health Samson Mndolo, said in a statement that the recruitment follows the sieving of candidates that appeared on the section list but did not meet the eligibility criteria.

This comes in the wake of recent walk-in interviews that were held across the country. The newly recruited healthcare workers include Nursing officers, community midwife assistant and medical assistants, with Mndolo indicating that they have been tapped from a reserve list they made during the recruitment process.

“The Ministry therefore wishes to inform the General public that it has completed the process for the post of nursing officers(Grade HL), community midwife assistant, and medical assistant”, Mndolo says.

Meanwhile, National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi, President Shouts Simeza has commended the ministry for undertaking the process.

“This is the type and relationship we have been looking for, we appreciate where we are coming from, when we have been pushing the government to recruit an additional healthcare workforce and all the effort has yielded fruit”, said Simeza

However, quality health advocate Maziko Matemba said there is a need for the ministry to improve its recruitment processes,

“Healthcare requires people that are qualified” said Matemba.

Early this year, the Ministry recruited at least 5,868 healthcare workers.

However, the recruitment process attracted a barrage criticism, with some quarters faulting some town, municipal and city councils for hiring people who were not even shortlisted for the interview.
