Weather Department warns of flash floods in the North

The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has warned of flash floods in some parts of the Northern Region.

A statement from the department indicates that this will likely happen because of expected heavy rains between today and Sunday, April 21,2024

“Threat of Flash Floods will be very high in northern parts of Nkhotakota, Nkhata Bay, eastern parts of Rumphi and Karonga upto Sunday, 21ST April 2024 due to the expected heavy rain during this period,” reads in part the statement seen by this publication.

Heavy rains experienced recently in Karonga, Mzimba, Nkhata-Bay and Nkhota-kota has resulted in floods along the lakeshore with the most district affected being Salima, Mangochi and Nkhata-Bay.

The floods experienced along the lakeshore have resulted in business disruption among lodges and Hotel owners in the said areas.
