A 28-year –old man in Nkhata Bay has been arrested for allegedly defiling a three-year old girl around Chintheche area in the district.
“The suspect broke into the bedroom where the girl was asleep with her grandmother” said District Police spokesperson Kondwani James.
James added that the suspect defiled the girl before attempting to rape her grandmother who became aware of the situation and called for help.

The suspect has been identified as John Kajula Phiri.
John Kajula Phiri has been charged with burglary, having sexual intercourse with a female child and attempted rape.
