PAC CRITICIZES MINISTRY ON BULLETS AND WANDERERS STADIA PROJECTS DELAY

Public Accounts Committee of parliament has condemned the Ministry of youth and sports for the delay in some sports projects including FCB Nyasa Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers stadiums in Blantyre

Public Accounts Committee summoned some of the Ministry officials to parliament in Lilongwe.

PAC described the delays in completing Griffin Saenda Sports Complex and Aquatic Sports Complex in Lilongwe after construction works given for more than one year due to a number of reasons including lack of funds and change of design of the facilities

PAC chairperson, mark Botoman said the meeting was aimed at seeking clarification on the number of issues

“We had the discussions on the number of issues and some members of the committee were interested to hear about the progress of the stadiums and other sports projects” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry Spokesperson Macmillan Mwale said the meeting was beneficial because we discussed some issues that will help Malawians.

“On the issues of Bullets and Wanderers stadia, we explained that there is progress as funds have been allocated. In this year financial year k1.8 billion and 1.2 billion for last year, which will be used to pay the arrears” Mwale said.

He further sad that the Griffin Saenda and Aquatic project has delayed as it is waiting for a public procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) determination as the scope of work changed, which ultimately changed the contract sum

However, the ministry has already asked to put 7 billion extra due to change of design.

During the meeting officials were asked to shed the light on the issue of  funds meant for development projects for a study tour to Lesontho three years ago.
