Finally the Central Committee of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has allowed Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba and 19 others to contest at the elective conference slated to start today at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

Mumba has confirmed of the development in a short statement posted on his official facebook page seen by this publication.

Wrote Mumba: “Kindly be informed that I have been registered as a candidate at exactly 23:18 hours. I will be on the ballot tomorrow and am winning.

“You cannot fight the grace and expect to win,” Apostle Burton Chavula.

Mumba is vying for the post of First Vice President for the Malawi Congress Party.

Earlier last evening, the Supreme Court of Appeal suspended the elective conference to allow for interpartes hearing involving the party and Eddie Banda in a matter in which the High Court ruled against the resolution to bar new members of the party from contesting for party positions during the the convention.

Few minutes later MCP through its lawyer withdrew the appeal.
