The police in Kawale, Lilongwe have arrested a Mozambican national for being in possession of a pangolin without authorization.
Police spokesperson for Kawale, Mabvuto Precious Phiri, stated that the individual, identified as Felix Matiyasi, 29, was apprehended by officers while he was selling the pangolin.
Phiri mentioned that Matiyasi had been responding to accusations related to the illegal possession and trade protected animal without the necessary permits.
Currently, the pangolin has been handed over to the Wildlife Protection Unit for safekeeping.
Matiyasi hails from the village of John, Traditional Authority Makanja of Chizolowondo district in Mozambique.
