In a twist of events leader of opposition in Parliament Dr. George Chaponda has denied accusing the National Registration Bureau (NRB) of printing extra IDs at National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) warehouse in Lilongwe.
Yesterday Chaponda and some other opposition lawmakers stormed NFRA warehouse at Kanengo in Lilongwe where the discovered that NRB was using the premises as storage facility for IDs.
The MPs then claimed that NRB was printing extra IDs with an aim of manipulating the outcome of the forthcoming 2025 polls and Chaponda made the same claim in Parliament yesterday using standing order 13.
This morning Parliament order Chaponda to provide evidence to substantiate the claims he made yesterday.
However, Chaponda while promising to bring the evidence in the house, he denied claiming that NRB is printing extra IDs.
Chaponda wrote: “Pofuna kuphiphiritsa nkhani yoti akukonza zobera chisankho potengera zomwe tinapeza ku NFRA Warehouse, lero anatumana kuti phungu wina afunse kuti ndibweretse umboni oti NRB ikuchita print ma ID ku NFRA.
“Zonse tikudziwa kuti zinali zokonza, ndi zachidziwikire kufuna kuphiphiritsa nkhani.
“Ine sindinanene kuti akuchita print ma ID, koma kuti tapeza ma ID, ena ali pansi ena atapakira m’masaka. Sizikusowekeranso umboni wina chifukwa tinajambula kale zonse.”
