Over 300 National Registration Bureau (NRB) officers who were hired for the third phase of voter registration in Mangochi are stranded at Mangochi Municipal Council offices due to what they claim failure to receive their allowances.
The officers, who are looking unrelenting, vow they will not leave the council premises until their allowances are paid.
“The majority of us haven’t been paid our money from the first phase, second including this last phase, which ended yesterday (11 December, 2024). We want our dues now,” said one of the officers, who chose not to be named.
The officers are currently at the council premises and can be seen rumbling about in a desperate manner.
Yesterday, the majority of them slept in the council hall as they did not have money to book accommodation in the lodges or resthouses.
Meanwhile, NRB spokesperson, Norman Fulatira admitted the delays in paying the temporary staff, but said they are making efforts to pay them as some have started receiving their allowance.
