Police in Mulanje are on the lookout for suspects involved in the destruction of 52 houses belonging to members of the Galamukani community, a group dedicated to protecting government forests.

This follows the tragic death of 43-year-old Fisiyani Samuel, who was allegedly stabbed in the abdomen by one of the community members.

According to police spokesperson Innocent Moses, the incident occurred on the evening of 7 February 2025, in the villages of Kamoto and Kukada, within the Chikuda Nkanda Chiefdom.

It is reported that community members became angry upon hearing of Samuel’s death and retaliated by attacking the homes of fellow Galamukani committee members, including that of Chief Kamoto, who works alongside the committee.

Police are currently investigating the matter and searching for the suspects believed to have been involved in the vandalism. Authorities are appealing to the public for information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
