A newly established cultural grouping under the banner ‘Malawi chewa Heritage’ has called on people in the country to rally behind president Lazarus Chakwera in this year’s elections for continued sound development projects the leader is undertaking.
Speaking during the meeting organized by the grouping today in Blantyre, the interim chairperson for the grouping fondly called ‘Gogo Sosola, said that the current administration led by president Chakwera has made meritorious development projects hence the need for people to give him another chance in the next five years.
“we came here to put proper structures for our organization. However, let me also take this advantage to implore people to willingly choose patriotic and informed leaders in the forthcoming general elections for betterment of our country, “he said.
Sosola highlighted that the main assignment of the grouping is to unite all the chewa people across the country and uplifting their culture through various cultural activities the grouping will be undertaking.
Sosola added that unresolved chieftaincy wrangles in courts, political interference, lack direction among others have been main concern over years among the chewas.
In her remarks village headman Gavi from Traditional Authority kapeni applauded the organizers of the gathering and described the meeting as a weapon towards transforming chewa culture into meaningful morals. A traditional leader however expressed concerned over some people who are diminishing chewa culture through mirroring and performing Gulewankulu in illegal places, saying the inclination is likely to shrink genuine cultural values of chewa people.
“As chiefs, we are doing our best to teach our children about significant of Gulewankulu to our culture. However, we have noted that in other districts people are abusing Gulewankulu .
This has to stop, “she said. In conclusion, Gogo Sosola made revelation that elections to choose officer bearers of the grouping in the southern will be held early March this year.
