Lilongwe, Malawi – The Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has sentenced two men to 228 months (19 years) in prison after finding them guilty of robbery.

According to Lingadzi Police Deputy Spokesperson Constable Glory Kondowe Ngwira, the convicts, Joseph Banda (42) and Christopher Dyson (38), committed the crime on January 30 at ABC in Lilongwe.

During court proceedings, Sub Inspector Morton Munthali told the court that the two men attacked a victim, striking him with a wooden club before robbing him of a laptop bag, ATM cards, a wristwatch, and cash amounting to K350,000.

When brought before the court, the accused pleaded guilty without wasting time.

In delivering the ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Kondowe sentenced them to 19 years in prison, stating that the punishment should serve as a lesson to others who engage in similar crimes.
