The police in Kafukule, Mzimba district, have arrested Patricia Banda, an Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) employee in Mkwangwali, on suspicion of attempting to fraudulently sell 102 bags of maize to a vendor.

Kafukule Police spokesperson Masiku Manyungwa confirmed the arrest and added that the vendor, Hazwell Phiri, has been arrested too.

The incident came to light when villagers were surprised to see a three-tonne truck loading maize at ADMARC.

They intervened, unloading the maize and returning it to the store.

The concerned villagers then reported the incident to the police.

Banda will face charges for improper use of her office, while Phiri will be charged with attempting to purchase government property without proper authorization.
