The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has suspended classes in areas affected by Tropical Storm Jude from Monday 10 March to Thursday 13 March 2025.
According to a statement, Secretary Rachel Chimbwete Phiri has instructed District Education Officers and Education Division Managers to ensure all schools and stakeholders adhere to this notification.
The storm is expected to mostly affect districts in the southern region, including Mulanje, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Thyolo, Zomba, Blantyre, Balaka, Ntcheu, Machinga, Neno, Mwanza, Nsanje and Chikwawa.
Boarding school students in affected districts have been advised to stay on campus and avoid unnecessary movements. Boarding school management has been directed to exercise caution and maintain student safety throughout this period.
To minimize disruptions to learning, the Ministry will provide alternative education channels. Students can access lessons through the Education Broadcasting Station radio, while secondary education resources will be available online.
