
Ex-Convict and Two Arrested for Serial House Break-Ins in Lilongwe

Lilongwe Police have arrested a former an ex-convict, Yosafati Siyasiya (40), along with two accomplices, Alex Chirwa (25) and Chisomo Petala (28), for allegedly breaking into multiple houses and stealing valuables.
According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the suspects have been linked to a series of burglaries in areas such as Chitipi, Njewa, Kasiya, Mpingu, and M’bwatalika. Items stolen include mobile phones, household goods, and medical supplies, with a total estimated value of K18.6 million.
One of the reported cases involves the break-in at Sunrise Mission Clinic in Mpingu, where the suspects allegedly stole medical supplies worth K3 million. Investigations have revealed that the stolen medicine was later sold at CMC Medicine Stores in Chinsapo 2, leading to the arrest of the store owner as well.
Notably, Siyasiya is a former police officer and a repeat offender. He was released from prison on December 16, 2024, after serving time for theft. However, just a day after his release, on December 17, he allegedly resumed criminal activities.
Police have recovered some of the stolen items, and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of burglary and theft.
