The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education has announced that classes will resume today in southern districts and other affected areas as Cyclone Jude has passed.
A letter signed by the Ministry’s Principal Secretary, Dr. Rachel Chimbwete Phiri, states that schools will reopen in districts previously at risk of flooding, including Balaka, Zomba, Mangochi, Machinga, Mulanje, Phalombe, Thyolo, Chiradzulu, Blantyre, Neno, Mwanza, Ntcheu, Dedza, and Salima.
However, Chimbwete Phiri clarified that in Nsanje and Chikwawa, classes will resume only after authorities confirm that conditions in the schools are safe.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has reported that the cyclone is expected to exit Nsanje yesterday in the afternoon.
