Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Vitumbiko Mumba has directed the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) to investigate and impose sanctions on the owners of Sana’s shop at Ginnery Corner in Blantyre for alleged fraudulent trading practices.

This follows reports that the shop demanded K500,000 from Malawian milk powder manufacturer, Mach Milk, as a prerequisite to selling its products in the store.

Mumba issued the order after visiting Mach Milk, where the company’s CEO, Madalitso Charles Phiri, informed him that the shop required payment to stock the milk, despite no legal requirement for such a charge.

According to the law, the CFTC is responsible for imposing sanctions on traders who violate fair trading regulations.
