Member of Parliament (MP) for Blantyre Kabula, Getrude Nankhumwa, has pledged to improve road infrastructure in her constituency to support local business development.
This commitment was made on last Friday during her supervision of the Chemusa Marketing road maintenance project, which connects Blantyre through Namiwawa, a route frequently used by customers traveling to and from work.
According to Nankhumwa, the road serves as a vital thoroughfare for daily business operations and provides an alternative route to the M1 road.

“I decided to maintain this road to support business operators in accessing more customers, as its poor condition had discouraged people from using it,” Nankhumwa explained.
Nankhumwa also shared her plans for maintaining the M1 road, which has developed large potholes. She said has consulted with the Roads Authority to address the issue.
She further gave an insight of her plans to maintain Mbayani marketing road among others as part of Constituency Development Funding projects.
Director of Operations for Wilmi Construction company ,Themba Mkandawire noted that the road maintenance project began on March 6 and is expected to be completed within two months. He assured that all necessary procedures are being taken to ensure the road’s durability as per national construction guides.
Shadow Councillor for Chemusa Magasa ward, Mrs. Elizabeth Tamaona M’gogodo, welcomed the development.
Getrude Nankhumwa initially secured her MP position as an independent politician but later joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and currently serves as a member of the People’s Development Party (PDP).
