The Blantyre High Court has revoked the bail of Wim Akster, a Dutch national accused of sexually abusing young boys at the Timotheos Foundation School he runs. Akster was arrested in 2020, and his trial has been ongoing.

Today, the court was set to hear the case, but Akster failed to appear, with his lawyers claiming he was ill.

They requested an adjournment, but the prosecution opposed it, arguing that Akster’s absence was deliberate since he is not in custody.

“We request the court to revoke his bail and have him taken into custody to ensure the trial proceeds with him present,” said lawyer Victor Jere for the prosecution.

Chief Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha agreed with the prosecution, revoked Akster’s bail, and ordered his immediate arrest.

The trial will continue on May 16.
